College of the Atlantic ~ Graduates 70 with Degrees in Human Ecology
Posted on | June 6, 2010 | 4 Comments
For many years, I have seen you on the streets of Bar Harbor, in the National Park and in the shops. Most of you, I do not know, yet I have worked and laughed with some of you and searched with others for real estate here in town.
It is doubtful that you or others will ever know what you have meant to our town/island/Downeast/Maine/New England. It has been said, “genius is not often recognized in one’s backyard”. At times, this may be true!
Human ecology is a root natural resource. The knowledge that you have earned here on MDI is clearly superior to money for oddly enough you can constantly give it away and it is never ever diminished.
Your talents are dearly needed next door and around the world. Congratulations on earning your degree here in Bar Harbor. May all roads rise to meet you as you quest into the unknown and share your vision and knowledge.
Thanks for spending a few years with us in “the town we all love so well.” Your presence and perseverance has strengthened our shores and people. Until we meet again…

What a wonderful post – thank you for saying that our students matter in town, as well as around the world. Made the sun come out in the middle of this pouring rain!

Ted:
Thanks so much for your acknowledgment regarding how COA, it’s students, faculty, and staff have been and continue to be an integral part of the MDI community. Your comments mean a lot, and I’m sure I speak for many when I say that COA would not exist if it wasn’t for Bar Harbor. It indeed takes a very special place to start such a special institution of learning ……. Father James Gower, Les Brewer…… many others on MDI were instrumental in designing and welcoming this “experiment” in higher education.
Thanks again

Thank you Ted! And the college appreciates the community. Students have found work, internships, volunteer projects and many will return and settle here based alumni statistics. Those of us who live and work here (COA) appreciate the support you offer to the graduates by the good wishes you posted.
Human Ecology makes sense!
